A 2-2 draw is enough to keep Men in Super League Men's Super League Teams

On a cold Saturday night in St George, the Sydney Uni Men's Super League side kept their fans on the edge of their seats right til the end before they confirmed that they will again be playing in Super League next year.

Before kick-off, word came through that Canterbury had prevailed 2-1 against Fairfield, meaning that a loss would have almost certainly spelt disaster for the students.

But things started brightly for Uni when a brilliant long range effort from Ed Noel found the back of the net and brought the small (but boistrous) band of travelling fans to their feet. The score remained 1-0 until half time.

The second half brought early joy for Uni when the ref awarded them a penalty. Up stepped Matt Demetriou to take the spot kick and although the keeper parried his first shot, the ball fell to his feet and he made no mistake slotting it home. 2-0 up and the Uni fans could breathe easy.

But with fifteen minutes to go, St George were awarded a penalty and Uni were reduced to ten men. 2-1 and nerves began creeping back in. Then with only 2 minutes of normal time remaining, a tragic defensive mix-up gifted St George an equaliser setting up a nail biting final few minutes.

But to their credit, Uni held firm and got the result they needed, their 9th draw of the season. So congratulations to the team for a strong performance in what has been a very tough season. And with so much youth in the Club, we can look forward to success in the years to come.

Well Done!

that corte guy was about 3 ft away from the striker but still managed to bring him down with his enormously oversized legs

Excellent effort under pressure. Dropping down to Division 1 would have been a disaster. Intriguingly, we were just 8 points from the top 5. Clearly a close comp this year.

Well done men - getting the result you needed without relying on the other games.

Keep your spirits up and ensure that next year you prevail and remain in the top division. Have a great off-season and see you in the new year.

surely the powers that be can see that sydney uni sport needs to put more money into this football club.

we have a team of young entertaining players, but with an older experienced player leading us round the park then we would of made finals this year.
