| Women's AA3s Win Grand Final | Women's Social Teams |
A big crowd was drawn to Meadowbank yesterday by the promise of some good football and free beer in back-to-back Sydney Uni grand finals.
The AA6s were first on the bill as they faced the Ryde District Panthers. It was a battle of 3rd against 4th (purists look away now) but unfortunately the positions were reversed when Uni went down 1-0. However, congratulations to George and all the girls for what has been a great season after being promoted from 7ths last year.
The third grade grand final was a more traditional clash between 1st placed Uni and 2nd placed West Ryde Rovers. As Premiers last year, Uni had fallen to the same team in last year's grand final on penalties, so this was certainly unfinished business for coach and players alike.
Nerves were settled early however thanks to a brilliant early goal to Astrid Loch-Wilkinson. Then followed an inexplicable hand ball by a West Ryde defender. Astrid calmly slotted the penalty and Uni were 2-0 up with only 8 minutes on the clock.
Emma Knutson added a third in the second half and at full time the celebrations could commence. Players and fans alike adjourned to the Nags for some well earned beers, and don't they taste sweet after a grand final win.
So well done to Adam and all the AA3s for a deserved victory. But it does pose the question, what are ABC Breakfast radio listeners going to hear about between now and March next year?
