| After Lots of Pens, Two Teams Go Through | Whole Club |
Penalties were the order of the day yesterday as AA3bs and AA4s both finished their semi-finals 0-0 after extra time.
The 3bs were taking on Kenso Tech in the early game and decided to substitute their keeper for the shoot-out. Matthew Bowden managed to intimidate two of the opposition shooters to hit their shots over the bar and Uni prevailed 4-3.
The AA4s were up against Dunbar and in dramatic cicumastances, it took ten shots for Uni to finally prevail 7-6.
Both teams will play their Grand Finals next Sunday night at Hensley Park. The AA4s kick-off at 5pm and the 3s at 7pm. It would be great to get a big crowd of supporters to cheer Uni on.
In the weekend's other semi-finals, the Men's AA1s found the semi-final a bridge too far as they went down 3-0 top placed Barnstoneworth. However, congratulations on a great season as the most successful AA1s team that has represented in ESSFA. Certainly something to build on next year.
And on the Central Coast, Women's Super League First Grade and U21s both lost their respective semis. Manly United FC got the better of the U21s 2-1, and Central Coast Lightning scraped home 1-0 in First Grade. This brings to an end a very successful Super League season for Uni. Congratulations to all involved!
And in the weekend's other two fixtures, AA5s managed their third win of the season in a match that started as 8 against 7 (in Uni's favour) but it wasn't until 9 faced 9 in the second half that Uni managed to get on the scoresheet, finishing 2-1 winners.
The AA6s left things very late in the Sydney FC curtain-raiser at Moore Park. A Waverly own goal meant the score finished 1-1 and allowed the AA6s to leapfrog UNSW on the table.
So in ESSFA Grades 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 (Uni has no 2nd grade team), Women's Super League First Grade, U21s, U16s and U14s, as well as Men's and Women's EUGs, it is clear which educational institution is superior.
