Back-to-back Grand Finals this Sunday!!! Men's Social Teams

It's deja vu all over again! This weekend again sees Uni playing in back-to-back Grand Finals. After an extended season, Mens AA3bs and AA4s will be playing their season deciders at Hensley Park on Sunday night.

The AA4s kick-off at 5pm against Minor Premiers Maccabi. Uni went down 2-1 in both matches againts Maccabi during the regular season and finished nine points behind them on the table, but no one will remember any of that if Uni do the business on Sunday.

The team is fresh from their dramatic victory over Dunbar last weekend. After extra time finished scoreless, Uni were faced with elimination as Dunbar had a shot to win the game. Despite the fact that the Dunbar player is in fact a Sydney Uni student, he still struck his shot well and sent the keeper, "Boggle", the wrong way. But he somehow managed to stick out a fist to block the shot. It finally took until the 10th shot before Uni finsihed victorious, 7-6.

The players to watch this weekend for the AA4s will be Rama Kandasamy (the team's top scorer with 8 goals), Chris Brunner (the new pub golf champion), Rocky Wolters (in his last game at the Club before heading back to the Central Coast) and Pat Lloyd to make a cameo appearance off the bench (just kidding!).

The AA3bs kick-off at 7pm against Dunbar Rovers. When the two teams met in Round 12, Uni had just lost the bulk of their team to World Cup duty in Germany and they lost 2-1. However in Round 3, a full strength Uni team trounced Dunbar 4-1. Undoubtedly, Uni will go in as favourites.

In last week's semi, a 0-0 draw and another penalty shoot-out meant that nerves were frayed once again. But Matthew Bowden stepped up in goal and UNSW put two over the bar and that was enough to get Uni through 4-3.

Players to watch this Sunday are Club President Murray, the experienced pair of Dave Gill and Simon Philips, and Paul Stender (if he can be bothered showing up).

It would be great to see a big crowd in blue and gold, and there may even be some amber refreshment available for those of you who get along. And remember to make lots of noise and sing lots of songs ("Sydney Uni til I die!") because it does make a difference.

In the weekend's other fixtures, the all conquering Super League Under 20s play for a place in the Grand Final against St George at Garside Park in Granville. Kick-off is 3pm Saturday afternoon.

And the Men's AA8s are also playing for a grand final spot. They take on UNSW at Jellicoe at 11.30am on Sunday.

Good Luck!

Good luck to all at the weekend.
Sorry to read above that it will be Rocky's last game, a massive loss not only to his but to the club. Hope you go out on a high mate.

Good luck to everyone. Sorry to hear that you're leaving Rocky. You'll be missed. Hope to see you at the club again. Maybe you can join me in Over 35's team in about 10 years or so :-)

See you all Sunday.
