Fourths Crowned 6-A-Side Champions

On the dust bowl that is St John's oval, 'the Fourths' were crowned Gyorgy Markus 6-a-side champions for 2006. Despite the fact that the outdoor season is now well and truly over and most of our minds have moved on to thoughts of beaches and cricket, eight teams still managed to dust off their boots and compete in this annual tournament.

The teams were made up from players from Men's AA1s, AA3as, AA5s, AA7s, AA8s, Over 35s and Women's AA4s. There was even the odd Super League player and a number of non-SUSFC players as well.

The group stage and semi final finals were contested in searing heat and growing dust storms. When it at last came time to contest the final, "the Fourths" were looking injured and exhausted, while "Team Bollocks" were feeling the impact of the amber refreshments they had consumed between matches.

This made for a tightly contested final, "The Fourths" winning 3-1 thanks to a Ciaran Rooney goal and 2 goals for having two girls on the field throughout the match.

So thanks to everyone who attended what was a fun and successful day.
