Mixed Start To New Season

Sydney Uni's began their first venture into the NSW Premier Futsal League on Saturday evening in Sutherland, where they faced the Brazilian Soccer Schools.

In the eight games contested, Uni managed two wins, two score draws and four losses.

The highlight of the night was probably the Under 16s girls managing an 11-0 win. The other victorious team were the Youth (U19) Men's team who had a very solid 4-0 win after only just managing to get 5 players on the court in time to start the game.

The Boys U16s managed a creditable 3-3 draw, while the Girls U13s ran onto the court only to find that the match would be played with a smaller ball than they had trained with. The match finished 3-3 but we only found out later that the ball was the wrong size. This clearly advantaged the far smaller BSS team. So it took Uni only 90 minutes of PL Futsal before they were embroiled in controversy.

The Women's Open team all showed up just in the nick of time, were not able to warm up, only had 5 players, and yet still only went down 3-2. Clearly one of those cases of "what might have been?".

The Men's team went down 6-3, but not before coach Glenn Lockhart tried to lead by example by bringing himself on. Unfortunately part of his example was to pick up a yellow card. Not a good advertisement for the kiddies out there, but a clear demonstration of his will to win.
