| Best Annnual Dinner Ever? |
A great new venue, good food, plenty of beer, a few Club legends, a packed dance floor and even a few actual awards given out - the 60th SUSFC Annual Dinner had it all.
For the first time that I can remember, the dinner was moved off campus to a new venue at Dockside in Cockle Bay. It seemed like most people enjoyed the change (once they were able to find the place).
In another break with tradition, most of the major awards were given out early in the night. Unfortunately Jim Zammit was in Brisbance this weekend and could not be there to pick up the Brendan Casey Award for Outstanding Service to the Club. Jim's amazing work with Women's Super League and the new Futsal program made him the obvious choice for this award.
The award for Outstanding Achievement on the pitch was won by the Women's All Age 3s for their brilliant efforts winning the Premiership and the Grand Final after being promoted from fourth grade last year. Coach Adam Spencer couldn't be there to accept the award himself, but he was seen later in the evening enjoying a few celebratory swigs from the old cup.
However, the highlight of the evening (in terms of awards at least) was the awarding of the Club's fourth Honorary Life Membership to former Club President David Shaw. Life Member No. 3, Simon Philips, recounted Dave's years of service to the Club which culminated in five years as Club President and winning the SU Sport "Club Administrator of the Year Award" earlier this year. Dave, humble as always, thanked all the people who had helped him along the way.
Congratulations Dave, the award was certainly well deserved.
The formalities concluded with a screening of the Club Highlights DVD produced by Dylan Zammit. It was certainly well received with perhaps the most interesting moments being Carl's sickening collision and your Club President getting himself sent off. If you would like a copy of the DVD, they will be available from Dylan for the bargain price of $7.50. Email him (not me) at mail@zedone.com.au and he'll organise for a copy to be sent to you.
The night ended with lots of dancing and the release of the Annual Report. All the copies were snapped up fast so if you missed out, I still have a few sitting around in my office if you email me. Otherwise, a PDF version (with a few late additions) will be posted on the website soon.
So thanks to Sara, John and Rob for their great job organising the night. Thanks to Cicely and Dan for MCing, and to all the presenters, as well as everyone else who helped out. And now we look forward to 2007 when we'll do it all again.

We can definitely make the video available via the website. But you'll need Z1 to create a version suitable for download.
