SU Sport Fees for 2007 - Note for College Students!

Thanks to VSU, SU Sport have changed their fee structure for 2007. This will mean some changes for SUSFC Members too.

Note: Every member of the Club must become a member of SU Sport.

In 2007, the Annual Fee to be a member of SU Sport is $55. This fee must be paid by every fee-paying SUSFC member, including SU Sport Life Members. (Note: the fee for junior members is $11).

This fee will allow you to use SU Sport facilities such as the gym or the pool (although you still need to pay an entry fee each time you use them).

The fee can be paid directly to SU Sport at any SU Sport facility (such as the Sports and Aquatic Centre, the Arena or the SU Sport office).

If you are a player returning from last year and planning to play again this year, you can pay the SU Sport fee now and you will be given a membership card. Note: Make sure you let them know that you are from the Soccer Club when you pay your fee.

If you are a new player, joining SU Sport will not guarantee you a spot in a team. Do not pay any fees until you are told by a team manager that you have made a team.

The Club fees for 2007 have not yet been determined. These will be announced as soon as they are approved by the Executive Committee.

IMPORTANT NOTE: I have just noticed on the SU Sport information sheet that residents of St Paul's, St John's, St Andrew's, Women's, Wesley and Sancta Sophia Colleges have made arrangements with SU Sport to have their SU Sport membership automatically supplied to them. If you are resident of one of these colleges, please ensure that you have acquired your SU Sport card before rego night.

Hang on - I feel mislead. Things are not only cheaper under VSU but we get a higher level of membership? That's not what the dreadlocked person in the tie-dyed shirt told me!! I demand an explanation for why our fees are so much cheaper this year!!!!

Note that the Club gets significantly less funding as a result.

I don't know what you're complaining about Ben, my fees are going to go up. Naturally the year I decide to return to playing, my SU Sport life membership no longer exempts me from an SU Sport fee. Kevin Rudd, are you listening? If you "roll-back" VSU I will vote for you.

Is it actually permissible under the SU Sport Constitution for them to charge a "Life Member" a membership fee ? It seems that the effect of introducing a charge for "life members" is to remove the many thousands of "life memberships" presented to people who had paid 5 years worth of membership fees.

I'm no constitutional lawyer, but it seems dodgy to me. Life Membership is still a category of membership of SU Sport, but it doesn't mean much any more. You do get a 10% discount when you join the gym, but that isn't much consolation if you aren't going to.

On the other hand, students are no longer compulsorily subsidising the leisure time of non-students. You have to admit, life membership of SU Sport was always a bit of a rort in that way.

Everyone has always paid Club, Association and SU Sport fees. And that's what they will continue to do.
