Hoff's First Grade Match Report

I think the infamous phrase "it was a %#!& battle" just about summed up the game on Saturday night at St George stadium. With at least half a dozen players unavailable for the game, the depth of our squad stood firm, and collecting 3 points at St George is something that not many teams will do this year.

The game started with St George having most of the play but they found it difficult to break down some scrambling Uni defence. On the rare occasions they did, Anthony Costa (aka Box Head) was able to pull off some breathtaking saves.

At the other end of the pitch it was Mr Myspace and the greyhound who opened up their defence a couple of times and we were unlucky not to land a goal. Mr Myspace, then got pulled down in the box and Uni got a penalty. Up steps Miles Downey (Aka the joker - for his "great" jokes). The joker placed the ball to the keepers left, but it was parried and the scores remained deadlocked.

Choc, forgetting that last week's physio was not at the game, went down complaining of a groin injury. When he remembered that the physio replacing her was a guy, he complained that it was actually his ankle that was sore. Nonetheless, he tried running it off and although his top speed was still quicker than Tom Corte's (aka Carney), he was replaced. Snip replaced him and went on to have a whale of a game. Cassette Deck also picked up an ankle injury late in the half and he was replaced by Stefan.

With about 10 minutes left in the first half, St George applied a lot of pressure. Uni defended in numbers and were able to survive the half.

In the second half, Uni seemed a bit more composed on the ball and we were able to maintain more possession. Saints did look dangerous from set pieces but aside from that they did not really trouble Box Head.

Half way through the half Matty D (Ace) was brought on for the Joker who was carrying a niggling ankle injury after a knock last week.

The Greyhound and the Galapagas Turtle got a few crosses over and one could sense that something was building for Uni. Then in the 70th minute Stefan, sensing an opportunity, pinged a ball to the G-Hound who measured his cross. Ace was able to put away the loose ball in the box for his first of the season.

With all of the subs used and the Galapagas cramping up, and with Emil Hauge the Danish import carrying a knock, the last 10 minutes were long for Uni. However we tackled and battled our way through it for a hard fought victory, and have not been scored against in 180 minutes of football.

Well Done Boys.

I might add...that all these penalty misses are adding to the Team's Drinking Kitty.

Brad you ignorant..
I'm Norwegian! Which means I come from a country in Scandinavia further north than Denmark, called NORWAY. You see?

Though your geography skills seem poor, your match report is great!! Look forward to more of them in the future as our wins will keep on coming!

P.S. A player profile will (hopefully) be ready to view in the coming weeks, I'm sure the resultant profiles will encourage supporters to get to our games and support the Uni boys!

I noticed a camera has been present at several matches, then surely there must be pics out there for grabs..
Why are they not out on the website? (come to think of it, there's not a single picture anywhere on that website..)

Anyway, who has them?

Another thing: a few of the new players have on several occasions requested the Sydney Uni Song lyrics to be posted on the website, nothing's happened.. you sloooow aussies!

I only sing what ive picked up over the years. have no idea if its right or not. but i think theres a few variations of the lyrics.

its a grand old team to play for
its a grand old team to say
and if you know your history
its enough to make your hearts go wooooah
we dont care what the other team says for what the hell do we care
cause we always know that theres going to be a show and the uni boys will be there
